U15s win shows steady improvement

Exeter U15s near the end of the season with a 21-15 win over Devonport in the Devon League last night. A steady performance highlighted the progress of the team and their commitment and enthusiasm will be rewarded further as many players are still available to play in the age group next year.

Lucy Chard-Maple who missed the last game was a welcome return to steady the team and ended up with 4 goals. Cam Sydenham also put in a good all-round performance scoring 8 pipped by captain Freddie Herring who ended up with 9. Theo Quantick pulled off some great saves including a penalty.

Two more wins and a loss for U15s

The young Exeter U15 side has been making good progress in the Devon League with another win over Newton Abbot Seals. The whole team gained game experience with the majority still being available to play next year in the age group.

There was a tougher challenge against a stronger Paignton side with Exeter coming out on top with a scrappy 10-6 home win. Finally after a sluggish start Exeter lost against the well drilled Newton Abott Otters. Newton’s effective press and counter proved too much at the start of the game for Exeter who recovered composure in the second half, but it was too late to effect the score at the sunny outdoor Teignmouth pool.

The teams stand-out players so far are Theo Quantick who is ever improving after a switch from outfield to in goal; Lucy Chard-Maple and captain Freddie Herring adding strength and consistency to the team with Cameron Sydenham improving in front of goal.

Success for new Exeter players

Exeter U15s were able to give some more players their first game on Sunday against a young visiting Newton Abbot B side. After a bright start by the normal starting seven where they took the lead 10-1, regular substitutes allowed some of the younger players to show their potential. Another good all round team performance with goals spread evenly throughout the team made up for the recent loss against a Barnstaple team with a couple of stand out players proving too much for the ever improving Exeter defence.

Final score 28-7: C Sydenham 6, L Chard-Maple 4, F Herring (Capt) 3, D Gaddum 3, R Powell 3, T Quantick 2 (in goal for ¾), M Crow 2, G Ambrose 2, E Gervin 2 (debut), Z Clarke 1 (in goal for ¼).

Exeter in quadruple KO Cup success

Exeter had a great week in the first round of the Devon KO Cup. On Thursday the U15 team travelled to Barnstaple where they emerged victorious after a hard fought match to make it into the Semi Finals.

Next up, the U17’s kicked off a triple bill of KO Cup First Round matches at the Pyramids on Sunday by easily overcoming Newton Abbot 29-4. The Exeter Ladies then took on Paignton in an eagerly anticipated match which saw Meritxell Escoda-Manzano score 8 to lead the Exeter team to a 15-4 drubbing of their South Devon rivals.
To cap the night off the Seniors took on a youthful Barnstaple team, and ended up being 7-4 down at one stage just after half time. Haydn Lawson, Jack Hutchens and stalwart of the North Devon Club Nigel Smith were all on fine shooting form for the opposition. In the second half Exeter’s experience showed as they moved up a gear and finished with a comfortable 13-9 victory, also progressing to the Semi Finals.
